LAMACA: A Passion for High-Performance Design
I’ve been a blacksmith since I was 20 years old. It is all I wanted to do and it is all I hope to do for a long time. I was fortunate to be trained by some of the most respected edged tool smiths in the world and I specialize in axes. I love axes! They are some of the simplest, yet most useful of tools. I now use traditional hand forge techniques to make axes in my home country of Latvia.
In 2018, I teamed up with two ardent axe enthusiasts, both thousands of kilometers away, to see if we could design axes with a focus on performance, not just good looks. Could we combine the best aspects of traditional handmade craft with new designs that simply perform better for the modern outdoorsman? LAMACA Handmade Axes is the result of that long collaboration and are now available to ship worldwide from our workshop in the USA.
Our Axes: The Light Forest Axe
A light, powerful go-to axe for everyday use. The LAMACA Light Forest Axe is a highly versatile camp axe that can handle virtually any sized job, but is light enough to pack anywhere. The handle is slim, quick and comfortable, perfectly balanced with the weight of the head. No thinning is necessary. Shock absorption is excellent with no compromise in handle strength. Our Axes: The Woodsman Cruiser
Most have forgotten that during the peak of 20th Century American forestry, the double bit axe was the tool of choice for the professional axeman. Well-balanced and versatile, each bit can be shaped for a different task; one aggressive for
deep cutting, one strong for hard or knotted wood. Essentially two axes in one, they are also very easy to maintain in the field. Just put one bit in a stump and file the other. We are thrilled to bring back a classic 2.5lb weight cruiser that offers all the benefits of the traditional double bit, but in a more manageable size for camping, backpacking, bushcrafting, trail clearing and more.
